The Gargunnock Village Store is situated on the Main Street of the little village of Gargunnock. Gargunnock lies on rising ground at the south side of the Forth valley in Central Scotland, about six miles west of Stirling and less than a mile to the south of the River Forth which formed the old Stirlingshire-Perthshire boundary. Gargunnock is a village of 820 people nestling under the Gargunnock hills. The Village store is a conversion of two 200 year old cottages in the 1960s and is the only shop in the village. The shop serves the village and surrounding area only, as there is little or no passing trade with the village sitting 1.5 miles off the main Stirling to Loch Lomond trunk road (A811).
(In a poignant article written for the Daily Record in the early 1930s the villagers were described as ....near town and main roads, yet safely tucked away in their own backwater. The world slips by them, for their main street leads to nowhere.)
The shop front has been carefully designed to reflect the age of the shop building, surrounding homes and the architecture of the buildings in the village.
Owners/Proprietors
The shop is owned by Carol and Lovat MacGregor who trade independently and who took over the ownership on the 1st February 2006.
Carol and Lovat have lived in the village for 7 years. They have two daughters, Amelie and Nina. This is Carol and Lovats first retail business. Carols background being in advertising and Lovats background in speciality chemicals supply to industry.
Carol balances well her different roles with a calm, assuring, meticulous sense of duty. Her gushing enthusiasm captures everyone around her and she brings the best qualities from her close knit team. Always smiling and with a friendly but wry sense of humour she brings a shine to the villagers day. She possesses an artistic eye which brings a fresh and colourful approach to ideas applied in the shop. She is respected in the village as a competent business woman, devoted mother and confidante.
